Membership in the City of Boston Credit Union is open to anyone who qualifies in any one of the following ways:
- Persons who live or work in Norfolk or Suffolk Counties, Massachusetts.
- Organization Members located in Norfolk or Suffolk Counties, Massachusetts. For the purpose of this by-law, the term Organization Member shall mean an Organization Member, as defined in section 1 of chapter 171 of the Massachusetts General Laws or any regulation promulgated by the Division of Banks.
- Persons whose salaries, wages, compensation, pensions or annuities which are available for payroll deduction or transfer of funds are paid in whole or part by the City of Boston, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, or any department, commission or authority, within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Employees of the City of Boston Credit Union.
- Family members of persons described in 1, 3 or 4 may become members. A family member is defined as mother, father, sister, brother, wife, husband, daughter, son, grandmother, grandfather, or grandchild.
There are three convenient ways to establish membership and open an account at City of Boston CU:
- Print the form.
- Complete and Sign the form.
- Mail or bring to any location the required proof of eligibility with your signed form, copy of your drivers license and a check for $25.00 or more made payable to City of Boston Credit Union or authorize the start of payroll deduction.
- We'll send back all you need to complete your membership.
If you don’t have access to our website or it is inconvenient to visit one of our locations, please call a Member Service Representative at City Hall (617) 635-4545; Dorchester (617) 635-1313; or West Roxbury (617) 635-2300. The Member Service Representative will mail you everything you need to open a City of Boston Credit Union Account, even a postage-paid envelope.
To join by mail, you must:
- Complete the Membership card in full, signing where indicated.
- Include an enlarged photocopy of your driver's license (or other official picture identification) plus proof of eligibility such as a payroll stub, etc.
- Enclose a check in the amount of at least $25 payable to City of Boston Credit Union, or authorize the start of payroll deductions.
Visit with a Member Service Representative at any of our locations. They will make opening a City of Boston Credit Union account an easy and pleasant experience.
To open an account in person, you must bring:
- A driver's license, plus proof of eligibility.
- A document showing your social security number such as Social Security Card, a copy of a Social Security Card, or a payroll stub.
- Cash or a check for at least $25 payable to City of Boston Credit Union, or authorize the start of payroll deductions.
To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, Federal Law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account.
What this means for you: When you open an account at City of Boston Credit Union, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. We will ask to see your driver's license or other identifying documents.
We will grant conditional membership, prime share only, until inquiries with any Consumer Reporting Agency are completed. If City of Boston Credit Union is unable to satisfactorily resolve any identification discrepancies your account will be closed.
