Massachusetts Credit Union League Essay Contest

City of Boston Credit Union is a sponsoring credit union for the Massachusetts Credit Union Leagues and the Massachusetts Credit Union Share Insurance Corporation 2015 Student Essay Contest. The contest is open to 7th and 8th grade students, who are asked to submit an essay on the topic: As a young adult, what do you think is the most important lesson credit unions can teach young people about managing their financial lives that will help them as they grow into adults with careers and families?

Eight (8) winning essays will be chosen, a first prize winner of $500 and seven (7) finalists each winning $250. Plus, there will be ten (10) honorable mention recipients each receiving $50.  An awards ceremony at the State House will be scheduled in the spring to honor the top eight winners.

Rules and Procedures:

  • Only students currently in the seventh or eighth grades are eligible to participate.
  • Students must be Massachusetts residents.
  • Schools must be located in Massachusetts.
  • Students must be sponsored by a member credit union in good standing with the League.
  • All essays must be handwritten by the student.
  • Essays should be no more than 250 words in length.
  • Only one essay per student may be submitted. Each student may be sponsored by only one credit union.
  • Each essay should include the student's name and grade level, home address, school name, teacher's name, principal's name and sponsoring credit union. A standard essay form can be downloaded by clicking here.
  • Essays will be judged by the Financial Literacy committee of the Massachusetts Credit Union League and the Massachusetts Credit Union Share Insurance Corporation.

Essays must be returned to City of Boston Credit Union by January 23, 2015.  Essays can be dropped off at any branch location or mailed to Karla McCarron, Vice President/Marketing, City of Boston Credit Union, One Union Street, 3rd Floor, Boston, MA 02108
